Pillar strength is the foundation for all movement. It consists of your hip, core, and shoulder stability. Those three areas provide a center axis from which to move. Think of your body as a wheel. Your pillar is the hub and your limbs are the spokes.



THE 6 PODFIT SESSION ELEMENTS


PREHAB

Prehab is a proactive approach to avoiding pain and injury. You’ll build strength and stability around your most vulnerable areas, while improving mobility, balance and joint function to decrease the potential for injuries.

MOVEMENT PREP

Movement Prep, as the term suggests, prepares your body for movement. It’s a series of innovative and dynamic movements that increase your core temperature, prepare your nervous system for physical activity and strengthen your body.

CORE STABILITY

Good core stability helps posture, which keeps bones and joints in the correct alignment so that muscles are being used properly. It also helps to decrease the abnormal wearing of joint surfaces, decreases the stress on the ligaments holding the joints of the spine together and prevents the spine from becoming fixed in abnormal positions.

MUSCULAR ENDURANCE

This is the resistance training portion of your workout. It’s not just about increasing the strength of your larger muscles. It improves stabilising strength, which supports proper alignment, movement patterns, and energy transfer, and helps to reduce injuries.

ENERGY SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT

ESD is the cardiovascular component of Podfit training programs. The intensity of the workouts is broken up into three different heart rate zones, easy/recovery, moderate/strength and hard/power.

REGENERATION

Regeneration comprises all the planned activities and nutrition strategies to help your body physically and psychologically overcome the stress of training. It’s essential to recovering quickly and efficiently from exercise.

ENDURANCE

This phase works on increasing the endurance in your musles and your energy systems. This strategy builds muscular endurance and conditions you to a higher volume of work. It may also stimulate your metabolism and muscle growth.


STRENGTH

Despite the increased emphasis on using heavier loads to improve strength, keep in mind that quality of movement is critical, so focus on using proper technique in every move you do.


SPEED AND POWER

Power may be the most underrated element in training for people who have no interest in sports. You might think, What do I need power for? But research has shown that power fades fast as you age and significantly impacts whether you wear down early or stay active well into your golden years.

KEY TRAINING PRINCIPLES


TRAIN MOVEMENTS NOT MUSCLES

Podfit workouts focus on multi-joint movements that improve coordination and recruit lots of muscles, a process that expends more energy (read: burns more calories) and provides a greater return on time invested.

PILLAR STRENGTH

Life requires pillar strength—stability through your hips, torso, and shoulders—and Podfit workouts are designed to improve it. It’s impossible to move your limbs efficiently and forcefully if they’re not attached to something solid and stable (i.e. your pillar).

BE PROACTIVE

About 65 percent of injuries—both athletic and lifestyle related—come from overuse, which is to say from repetitive use of joints that are rendered dysfunctional by muscular imbalances. To avoid pain, injury, and ultimately rehabilitation, you need a proactive approach, or what we call prehabilitation (or “prehab” for short).

UNDERSTANDING LIMITS

If you have an opportunity to follow a Podift personal traiing program you’ll begin with an assessment that includes a movement screen, cardiovascular fitness assessment, nutrition consultation, and goal setting exercise, so that we can find you current level. We will look to build on it in a way that minimise the risk of injury.

MAXIMISE YOUR TIME

Just as you strive for efficiency at work and in your personal life, your workout should be no different. Podfit personal training programs use a variety of techniques, such as complementary movements and circuit training, to increase the density of your workouts—that is, your ability to get more work done in less time.

BALANCE WORK & REST

Recovery is necessary and equally important as working out. If you don’t give your body time to recover, it’s never going to improve. Exercise is just one part of the puzzle. To optimise health and fitness for every individual, Podfit focuses on four key areas: Mindset, Nutrition, Movement, and Recovery
